Pertec International a division of Radio Holland South Africa requested an evaluation copy of VideoMoverPlus streaming software for Inmarsat Platform. Peter Bruce, the Market Manager (Land Mobile) division of Pertec International evaluated the solution and was kind enough to send us a copy of his project testing and demonstration of software for his high profile client in South Africa. Below is his short overview of the solution.
About Pertec International:
SUPPLYING QUALITY SERVICES AND PRODUCTS SINCE 1963
Pertec traces its origins, then trading under the name of Marine Services, as suppliers of specialised electronic equipment to the marine industry. Founded in 1963, Marine Services established itself as the premier marine electronics organisation in Southern Africa. Its markets included the SA Navy, shipyards, commercial marine and commercial fishing companies, plus the leisure marine industry - both power and sail.
In recent years the need for expanded horizons resulted in the acquisition of Performance Aviation. Pertec, the entity that came into being from the amalgamation of Marine Services and Performance Aviation, was thus able to add to its product portfolio - land based satellite communications systems, avionics and ultra high accuracy GPS positioning fixing systems.

Evaluation of iPixCell VideoMover plus video streaming software.
27 January 2010
Radio Holland South Africa was recently requested to demonstrate the VideoMover plus video streaming software for a security service client for services starting with the Soccer World Cup.
We contacted iPixCel and requested a demo copy for one week and within a day we had an email back with a link to download the software, including the one week license. Included with this was the instruction to install the software. The instruction was easy to understand and concise. Within a short period of time we had the Send and Receive software, configuration and license installed.
We did however hit on one snag which was due to our own fault in reading the instructions properly. One call to the support staff at iPixCell sorted this out. The problem was that we typed in the IP address of the send station in abbreviated format but what is required is the full format including the htpp:// and also the 8080 port number at the end.
Once this was corrected we were up and running.
We had obtained a Fixed IP from out Service Provider and set up the Thrane Explorer BGan 700 into Modem mode
Then firstly we set up the Thrane Explorer 700 in the Background IP mode which is and tested the system without using the costly 256k streaming. This worked very well and we were pleased to be able to connect at 193kbps with a good picture quality. This would be because we ran the test in Johannesburg and probably had the use of the channel in the spot beam all to ourselves (low contention).
We then set up the Thrane Explorer 700 in 256k streaming mode. It is very easy to change over using the Thrane Web Interface on the Explorer 700 terminal and on the VideoMoverPlus just one drop down arrow click to change over. This worked very well with a noticeable improvement in picture quality and movement response.
Our client was impressed with the picture quality and has requested that we should do further demonstrations with the other BGAN equipment that they have access to.
