Satellite 2008 Show and Exposition was held last week in Washington DC. Thrane & Thrane announced its new Explorer™ -727 hardware and that is the focus of this short story.
iPixCel Press Release - Washington DC, Satellite 2008 Exposition and Conference

Explorer™-727 auto tracking antenna and vehicular installation hardware - David Payne of KFOR Ch4, Oklahoma City, OK, provided testimonial of E-527 use in severe weather tracking and broadcast media use.

Satellite 2008 Exposition and Conference, Washington DC - George Sphone of Thrane & Thrane announced arrival of Explorer™-727 with a member of media and US military.

Ken Latham of Thrane & Thrane and Mansour Ansari of iPixCel, LLC - Explorer™ -727 announcement event - Washington DC
The first generation of vehicular BGAN is the mighty Explorer™-527 that was announced in 2006 on the roof top of Hilton Hotel in Virginia Beach. The E-527 auto tracking unit has some seriously unique features that is very attractive to mobile professionals needing stable auto tracking, broadband, and internet access in addition to telephone, fax, and data upload/download, while on the move. The E-527 is a rugged 2 piece hardware system with an antenna capable of mounting on the top of a car and a 1U rack mount transceiver for vehicular installation equipped with RJ-45, phone jack, USB connection, and ISDN ports. This nifty 2 piece hardware is capable of 32, 64, and 128k streaming data while mobile at highway speed, a feature very attractive and much needed for broadcast professionals, military use, and many more mobile applications where vehicular installation is vital.

First glance at the Explorer™-727 vehicular hardware reminded me of the Thrane & Thrane Sailor Transceiver, but it has different electronics inside, George Sphone, VP of Marketing for Thrane & Thrane said. The antenna is the same size as the 527 model, but much more sophisticated if compared to the capable 527 model. The 727 is now supporting the new standard of multicast IP, a new standard for BGAN named BGAN-X, capable of 256k data streaming while mobile.
The usual crowd - the master distributors, dealers and resellers, members of the press, and a crowd of technology junkies flocked around the new hardware inside a luxury suite at Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington DC - hosted by Thrane & Thrane. George Sphone, VP and General manager of Thrane US division introduced the new product and a member of the US military, in addition to a member of media television, provided testimonials using the BGAN in their respective fileds.
With prior arrangements, we invited David Payne, a highly respected meteorologist from KFOR TV Ch4 in Oklahoma City to provide testimonial using the Explorer-527. David conducted a short but highly sensational power point presentation depicting BGAN equipment used for "breaking news" & "severe weather reporting", stressing the life saving capabilities of his profession. He played back some footage of LIVE video streaming transmitted by Explorer-527 using iPixCel VideoMover™ software.

See the entire sample footage of David's presentation here (4 minutes of video clips)
To capture store and forward, BurstVideo™ and LIVE streaming footage using the E-527 hardware a custom software (VideoMover™) was used, automated for vehicular use. This software is the only platform in the world capable of delivering live footage via software without reliance on extra hardware, routers, or decoders. A new version of "VideoMover™ Plus" is already announced supporting Explorer-727, BGAN-X, VSAT, WCDMA, and Wi-Max functionalities. For more information regarding iPixCel's new VideoMover Plus turnkey system please contact Mansour Ansari, Chief Technology Officer, iPixCel®, LLC.
